Cat Grooming Can Be Comfortable for the Most Finicky of Felines

Cats are very sensitive to sound, touch and texture so at Purr’n Pooch we go to great lengths to make sure your kitty is comfortable when being groomed. Cats require different handling than dogs and should be groomed in quiet, calm surroundings.
Purr’n Pooch’s standard spa and grooming services for cats include trimming of the undercoat, shaving rear areas of fur, trimming nails and pad hair, baths and ear cleaning. It’s very important to get your cat accustomed to grooming early, especially if he or she is a long haired breed.

Tips for Grooming Your Cat at Home

Here are some tips for grooming your cat at home that, with patience and time, can make the process as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Create a tranquil area to bathe your cat, free of loud sound and activity. The sound of running water is very soothing, which is why Purr’n Pooch’s Owner Dick Palazzo designed and installed a 22-foot indoor waterfall and rock wall for our feline guests to enjoy in our custom-designed cattery.
  2. Cats need to firmly grip a surface with their paws and claws to feel secure when bathing so make sure to place your cat on a towel, carpet or yoga mat. Tubs and stainless steel surfaces are slippery and create a sense of insecurity for cats causing them to tense up during bathing.
  3. In order to create a peaceful environment to bathe your cat, Purr’n Pooch recommends giving him/her a sponge bath by using a feline-friendly shampoo. Massage the shampoo into his/her coat and then gently towel dry the fur. Make sure to hold and rub your cat through the process to ensure a relaxing experience.
