Indulge Your Pet with a Relaxing Massage

Indulge Your Pet with a Relaxing Massage
Spring has sprung and summer is on the way, which means you and your pet will be more active enjoying the longer days and time outside. Whether running, swimming or playing fetch, your best friend is going to be using his muscles a lot, possibly causing soreness if he hasn’t exercised much due to the cold weather.
Giving your pet a massage is the perfect way to help relax his muscles and relieve soreness. At Purr’n Pooch, dog massages are performed in a tranquil spa room with candles and aromatherapy.
Benefits of pet massage include:

  • Decreased stress and anxiety
  • Strengthened immunity
  • Improved digestion
  • A healthier coat and skin
  • Less muscle tension and soreness
  • Increased circulation

Any dog can benefit from a pet massage, but older dogs can be the perfect candidates. Along with the benefits previously mentioned, massage may slow down the degeneration process in seniors. Dogs that are suffering from illness, such as arthritis, will especially benefit from massage. For these pets, massage will reduce muscular tension (helps relieve some of the aches and pains) and stimulate circulation. Nervous and anxious dogs will also benefit. Stress can actually be one of the many root causes of illness and disease. So if your friend is frantic, a relaxing message may be in order.
It may seem like petting would be enough, but there is a big difference between petting and massaging your pet. Petting just doesn’t compare to massage, as the average petting is rarely more than skin deep. There are different kinds of specific techniques when it comes to massaging, such as effleurage (gliding strokes used to begin and end a massage) and tapotement (rhythmic percussion to stimulate body systems).
For many pet owners, the goal is not always therapeutic — it’s simply to pamper their best friend. It’s amazing to see how much the pups enjoy being massaged as they enter a state of canine bliss. Our pets make us happy, so why shouldn’t we reciprocate?
If you’d like your pooch to receive a massage by our pet technicians, make an appointment to visit us in Wall or Tinton Falls or add the service to your daycare or boarding package.
