Creative Grooming with Jenn Dios

Groomer Jenn Dios with Honey Bee

Creative Grooming is a form of creative expression in which the animal is the canvas. For some groomers it’s a touch of elegance. For others, it’s a drastic transformation. It may involve bright and bold colors, softer pastels, or even no color at all.

This Halloween let Purr’n Pooch transform your pup into any any one of a dozen of exciting characters from a football fan sporting the logo of his or her favorite sports team to a cute, cuddly panda bear. Let’s have fun and be creative!

Dying a pet is very similar to leaving in a conditioner. Jenn Dios, Purr’n Pooch’s Creative Grooming Spa Professional, washes your pet with a good quality shampoo, rinses, then adds dye to the desired area where it sets for 15 minutes then is rinsed. Jenn only recommends using dye on a pet that has not had any skin issues and is not sensitive to skin allergies. On a dog or cat, 12 weeks or older, with a healthy skin and coat it should not cause any irritation. Coloring results may vary with your dog’s coat type and breed. A consultation visit is requested prior to your pet’s creative grooming appointment to ensure that your pet has a healthy coat and his or her skin is in good health.

As beautiful as the grooms may be, the animal’s comfort should never be sacrificed for the sake of a groom. It is also important to note that creative grooming is only to be performed by professional groomers, knowledgeable in both basic grooming and creative grooming techniques. While the animals are not harmed during these grooms, there are many different factors that must be understood and taken into account. For this reason, pet owners should not attempt to achieve a creative groom on their own. If you are interested in having something extra done for your pet, talk to your groomer about what options are available for you and your pet.

Contact us at 732-842-4949 in Tinton Falls or 732-528-8100 in Wall to reserve your pet’s appointment. Visit this link for directions.

SPRING INTO ACTION WITH DOG TRAINING AT PURR’N POOCH

Spring has sprung! The flowers are blooming and the weather is getting warmer. It’s the perfect season to enjoy time outside with your dog.

Is your dog’s behavior holding you back from enjoying the great outdoors? Tired of your baby pulling you around the park on the leash? Is he jumping for those burgers at the family barbecue? Is she having trouble listening to your basic commands like sit or stay? If any of these dilemmas are holding you back from enjoying a special day out-and-about with your best friend, we invite you and your pet to join us for training classes at Purr’n Pooch.

Spring is an ideal time to join Purr’n Pooch’s Trainer Iuliana Gedo, dip.CBST for her 6-week session of private and group classes for puppies and adolescents. A well-behaved, happy dog will enjoy an exciting summer of fun in the sun with family and friends!

Puppy Basics Class Starts Thursday, May 10th, 7:00 p.m.
(Puppies 10 Weeks – 5 Months)
Puppy Basics covers potty training, nutrition, bite inhibition and basic obedience, including walking nicely on leash, sit, down, stay, come and leave it/drop it.

Basic 1 Class Starts Wednesday, May 9th, 7:00 p.m.
(Dogs 6 Months & Older)
For the adolescent or adult dog that needs ‘basic training’. Our professional trainers will teach you how to teach your dog sit, down, stay (duration & distance), come, walking nicely on leash, leave it / drop it, and how to politely greet strangers. We’ll also show you how to address unwanted habits like jumping, mouthing, nipping, barking incessantly and becoming overly distracted in the presence of other dogs.

Our Certified Pet and Dog Trainers (CPDT) specialize in household manners, everyday commands and prepare your dog to obey instructions at home, in public and around other dogs. Our animal behavior training uses a reward-based curriculum that’s based on positive reinforcement. Best of all, basic dog training with Purr’n Pooch is fun because we enjoy helping your pooch learn and grow!

About Purr’n Pooch Dog Trainer Iuliana Gedo, dip.CBST

Iuliana is a graduate of the Animal Behavior College’s Dog Training Program and received her Diploma of Canine Behavior Science and Technology at the Companion Animal Sciences Institute. She has been a partner in the prestigious Community Training Program of Best Friends Animal Society since January of 2010. She comes to Purr’n Pooch from the Monmouth County SPCA, where she worked as a trainer in the Behavior Department, assessing dogs, designing and implementing behavior change protocols and creating enrichment programs to enhance the experiences of shelter dogs. She also trained staff and volunteers on basic dog handling and safety and trained high-level volunteers to participate in advanced behavior modification work.

Training Tips

  • Training must be FUN in order for your dog to learn.
  • Training is not hard; it just takes time, patience, consistency and persistence.
  • Training is not a spectator sport. You must participate to achieve.
  • Training is a lifelong process. If you stop practicing with your pet, he or she will forget. Teach new tricks, play new games and practice commands in new places. Keep training interesting for both you and your dog’s sake.

“Understanding your dog and knowing how to control him, develop his potentials, and resolve behavior problems, emotional conflicts and frustrations are no less essential than love and respect.” Michael W. Fox

PURR’N POOCH FOUNDATION FOR ANIMALS HONORS HEROES IN ANIMAL WELFARE

On February 23rd at the Purr’n Pooch Pet Resort in Tinton Falls, the Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals announced its 2012 grantees in the areas of animal rescue and welfare. Annual grants are awarded to non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organizations to be used for day-to-day operations, emergency relief, spay/neuter efforts, veterinary care, equipment, construction, vehicle purchases, educational programs and special projects.

Since the foundation was founded in 2010, grants totaling $35,000 have been awarded to nine nonprofit animal rescue organizations. 2012 grantees included the Cat Assistance Network, Greyhound Friends of NJ, Operation Kindness, Project Animal Worldwide, Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Special Needs K9, and St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center.

With pure hearts, boundless energy and few resources, our grantees work tirelessly to rescue, heal and restore the confidence and trust of animals in need,” said Elizabeth Palazzo, President, Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals. “Our Board is honored to support the inspiring work of unsung heroes in animal welfare.”

The Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial support and educational resources to assist the efforts of non-profit, no-kill animal welfare and rescue groups across the United States. Visit www.purrnpoochfoundation.org for more information.

Inspiration for the Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals

The Purr’n Pooch Pet Resort celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2010 as a family owned and operated business. To honor the occasion, Dick and Mary Palazzo’s daughters Koren and Elizabeth founded the Foundation to continue their legacy of love. Today, the Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Trustees whose enthusiasm, dedication and complementary skills have produced a high-functioning team with the sole focus of helping those who help animals.
