Support U.S. Military Working Dog Teams this Season of Giving

This holiday Purr’n Pooch Pet Resorts at both locations in Wall and Tinton Falls are collecting donations for U.S. Military Working Dog Teams who have been deployed to the Middle East. We need your help in supplying them with gifts.

The Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals will host a volunteer working day on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at 86 West Gilbert Street in Tinton Falls, NJ. The general public and Foundation supporters are invited to write letters to the dog handlers and prepare their care packages for shipment. If interested in volunteering or for more information, email info@purrnpooch.com.

Visit the United States War Dogs Association for ways to help the organization throughout the year. Operation Military Care K-9 is one of its many wonderful projects. Also be sure to visit the organization’s US War Dog Memorial. Dedicated on June 10, 2006, the Memorial, located guarding the gateway to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Holmdel, New Jersey, consists of a bronze statue of a kneeling Vietnam War soldier and his dog, set on a black granite base.  The memorial was designed by sculptor Bruce Lindsay. The U.S. War Dogs Memorial, while directly representing the War Dog Teams of the Vietnam War, honors all our nation’s war dogs and their handlers – past, present and future.

Cat Grooming Can Be Comfortable for the Most Finicky of Felines

Cats are very sensitive to sound, touch and texture so at Purr’n Pooch we go to great lengths to make sure your kitty is comfortable when being groomed. Cats require different handling than dogs and should be groomed in quiet, calm surroundings.

Purr’n Pooch’s standard spa and grooming services for cats include trimming of the undercoat, shaving rear areas of fur, trimming nails and pad hair, baths and ear cleaning. It’s very important to get your cat accustomed to grooming early, especially if he or she is a long haired breed.

Tips for Grooming Your Cat at Home

Here are some tips for grooming your cat at home that, with patience and time, can make the process as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Create a tranquil area to bathe your cat, free of loud sound and activity. The sound of running water is very soothing, which is why Purr’n Pooch’s Owner Dick Palazzo designed and installed a 22-foot indoor waterfall and rock wall for our feline guests to enjoy in our custom-designed cattery.
  2. Cats need to firmly grip a surface with their paws and claws to feel secure when bathing so make sure to place your cat on a towel, carpet or yoga mat. Tubs and stainless steel surfaces are slippery and create a sense of insecurity for cats causing them to tense up during bathing.
  3. In order to create a peaceful environment to bathe your cat, Purr’n Pooch recommends giving him/her a sponge bath by using a feline-friendly shampoo. Massage the shampoo into his/her coat and then gently towel dry the fur. Make sure to hold and rub your cat through the process to ensure a relaxing experience.
