Summer Fun at Purr’n Pooch and Dog-Friendly Events at the Jersey Shore

Summer Fun at Purr'n Pooch and Dog-Friendly Events at the Jersey Shore

The tail-wagging fun has yet to stop this summer! These past few months have been jam-packed with exciting activities and the pups and kitties are loving it – especially the mild temperatures, which have made outdoor playtime even more enjoyable.  We were curious to find out what your pets have been doing all summer long, so we held our “Paws” for Summer Fun Photo Contest from July 21 to August 10. We saw so many adorable pictures of pups lounging by the pool and on the porch; basking in the sun out in the backyard; cooling off in the shady garden; playing with the garden hose, Frisbees and chew toys; and taking a bubble bath to clean up from a long day of outdoor fun. Our furry friends just love to soak up the summer fun!

Summer Fun at Purr'n Pooch and Dog-Friendly Events at the Jersey ShoreWhen your pets are not at home spending fun in the sun with you, they’re enjoying lots of summertime activities with us here at Purr’n Pooch. Splashing and paddling around in our freshwater pools is a favorite for the pups. This summer we added a new and exciting amenity to our Wall location – an indoor pool for aquatic water exercise. It’s already a hit! When it’s time to wind down, the pups relax in the shade on the playground or in our air conditioned suites. They also enjoy playing with KONG® toys filled with frozen peanut butter and treats. The kitties are purrfectly content basking in the sun near the windows and playing on the jungle gym, rock walls and waterfalls. We’ve celebrated quite a few birthdays and other special occasions with private and monthly parties, featuring Jodes Happy Tail yogurt treats for dessert – a sweet treat! On Saturdays, we have our training and agility classes, which take place both indoors and outdoors.

Book your pet’s summer fun with us soon! Our swimming pools are open through mid-September and sometimes longer depending on the weather.  Call us in Tinton Falls at 732.842.4949 or in Wall at 732.528.8100.

When your pet is not visiting Purr’n Pooch or at home playing in the backyard, take him or her out on the town! There’s plenty of dog friendly events happening around the area. Here are just a few in Monmouth County, NJ. Get out and enjoy the dog days of summer!

Protect Your Pets During Fireworks Displays Across the Jersey Shore

Protect Your Pets During Fireworks Displays Across the Jersey Shore

Many people are unaware that the Fourth of July is the most dangerous holiday for pets. According to national statistics, animal control officials across the country see a 30-60% increase in lost pets each year between July 4th and 6th. In fact, July 5th is one of the busiest days of the year for shelters. Thousands of pets are lost each holiday due to the big bangs of those spectacular but scary fireworks displays. These unexpected and loud noises put our pets in a spooked state of confusion causing them to run away from home by escaping out windows or fences.

Sadly, many cats and dogs are never returned to their owners because they lack identification like an i.d. tag or chip. Identification is key to being reunited safely with your pet.

There are, however, some things you can do to ensure your pet is relaxed and entertained during the fireworks. Read more about them on our post, “Five Ways to Keep Pets Safe During Fireworks”. The article highlights pet games as well as treats, toys and accessories. Available at our retail stores, the Thundershirt, for example, can help ease anxiety in pets and distract them from those big bangs and have them concentrating more on big fun with the family.

Most importantly, it’s vital that you know the days and times when your community is going to host its celebrations so you can either protect your pet in the comfort of your home or make accommodations to board your dog or cat at your local pet care facility.

Here’s a list of popular Jersey Shore fireworks displays to prepare you and your pet for fireworks all summer long:

  • Atlantic Highlands Fireworks: July 4 at 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Point Pleasant Beach Fireworks: July 3 at 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Manasquan Fireworks & More: July 3 at 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Ocean Township Fireworks: July 3 at 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Brick Summerfest: July 3 at 7:00 pm – July 4 at 10:00 pm
  • Asbury Park Fireworks: July 4 at 9:00 pm – 9:30 pm
  • Bradley Beach Fireworks, Dance & Swim: July 4 at 9:30 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Long Branch NJ Oceanfest & Fireworks: July 4 at 10:45 am – 10:30 pm
  • West Long Branch Fireworks: July 4 at 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm
  • Wildwood 4th of July: July 4 at 11:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • Seaside Heights Fireworks: July 4 at 9:30 pm – 10:00 pm
  • Ocean City July 4th: July 4 at 9:00 am – 10:00 pm
  • LBI Fireworks: July 4 at 9:00 pm – 9:30 pm
  • Atlantic City Fireworks: July 4 at 9:30 pm – 11:00 pm

WEEKLY DISPLAYS

  • Wildwood has fireworks on the Beach every Friday night in July and August.
  • Point Pleasant offers fireworks displays each Thursday in July and August.
  • Seaside Heights has Wednesday fireworks from June through September.
  • Asbury Park has a fireworks show each Wednesday night of the summer.

From all of us at Purr’n Pooch, we wish you a very happy and safe Fourth of July together, pets and people. The Jersey Shore has so many fun activities to offer and although fireworks may be exciting for people, we must remember that the Fourth and other fireworks celebrations throughout the summer are fearful times for pets. Take precautions, be safe, and enjoy.

Pet Parties Are Paws Down Fun

Pet Parties Are Paws Down Fun at Purr'n Pooch

Does your dog’s lifestyle resemble that of the Furry & Fabulous? If so you must be sure to celebrate in style with our professional pet party planners at Purr’n Pooch. From small intimate gatherings for the concerned canine to full scale all out fur flying fun, Purr’n Pooch has you covered.

According to the most recent American Pet Products Association National Pet Owners Survey, 7% of U.S. dog owners have a holiday or birthday party for their pet. Just ask any of the party animals at Purr’n Pooch and they’ll agree paws down pet parties are a growing trend!

In 2011 pet expert Arden Moore partnered with Pet Sitters International to create National Dog Party Day in conjunction with Take Your Dog to Work Day. This year the event grew to have four host cities that vowed to “work like a dog by day and party like a pup at night” all to benefit worthy pet adoption groups.

Looking to throw a canine celebration of your own? You can count on the experts at Purr’n Pooch to guide you from start to finish by first scheduling a consultation to get your party planning headed in the right direction. If you’re new to throwing a bow wow good time for your friend, the staff at Purr’n Pooch can help you step by step with selecting a theme, invites, decorations, custom cake, specialty teats, goody bags and entertainment.

Purr’n Pooch is able to accommodate any party, indoors or outdoors, depending on the season and your needs. Parties start at $275 and while there is no limit to party size with two or four-legs, it is best to have an accurate guest count so that we arrange for adequate staff to be on-hand to aid in all party goers having a tail-wagging good time.

While a birthday is always a great time to get together, the celebration doesn’t have to be the only special day in the life of your best friend. Consider hosting an Adoptaversary for the rescue pet, Bark Mitzvah, Holiday or Pool Pawty to splurge on your canine companion. There are always the milestone moments like when a young pup graduates from basic training or a puppy/kitten shower to welcome the new addition into the family.

However, perhaps the most important day in the life of any doggie diva is her wedding day! This was evident when Baby Hope walked down the aisle in the world’s most expensive dog wedding last July in NYC. This fancy affair was all to raise funds and awareness for animal welfare with mother of the bride pet lifestyle expert Wendy Diamond hosting a contest through Animal Fair Magazine to find the debonair dog groom. However, most puptials can just be about the ceremony of joining paws in holy muttrimony and the howling good time at the reception.

While all of these party ideas can also be arranged for your fancy feline it is best to keep the guest list to only human party goers – as most cats command the attention of the room.

Get ready to have a dog gone good time with your best friend or a purrfect feline function by booking your next pawty at Purr’n Pooch. Call us at (732) 842-4949 in Tinton Falls or (732) 528-8100 in Wall to schedule an appointment with one of our pet party planners.

A Summer of Love for Animal Charity

Summertime at Purr'n Pooch - A Summer of Love for Animal Charity

Summer is a special time at Purr’n Pooch Pet Resorts. We enjoy seeing many familiar faces in our daycare and boarding and making new friends who love their family pets as much as we do. For more than 40 years, the Palazzo family has been committed to providing Jersey Shore residents and visitors with the very best in luxury pet care, training, grooming and more. When we’re not pampering your pups and cats with birthday parties and strawberry baths, we’re helping animals not as fortunate through the Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals.

In 2010, Dick and Mary Palazzo’s daughters Koren and Betsy founded the Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals to honor their parents’ incredible life’s accomplishment – a celebration of 40 years in the pet industry. Their gift continues to keep giving and to date grants totaling more than $55,000 have been awarded to nonprofit animal rescue organizations from across the NY/NJ region. Our nonprofit grantees help all kinds of life from stranded seals off the Jersey Shore to canine police dogs protecting communities across NJ. There are many groups, large and small, in need of help and we’re honored to lend a paw in their time of need.

Past grantees include the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, Operation Kindness, Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, All FUR Love Animal Rescue, Monmouth County SPCA, Re Run NJ, Mid Atlantic Bull Dog Rescue, New Life Boxer Rescue, Cat Assistance Network, Greyhound Friends of NJ, Project Animal Worldwide, Special Needs K9, St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, and Wag On Inn Rescue.

The Purr’n Pooch Foundation for Animals is run by a volunteer board of veterinarians, pet industry experts, media professionals and others whose work is made possible thanks to the generous support and passion of Purr’n Pooch’s employees, clients and vendors.

You’ve donated food and pet supplies to help families and organizations during Superstorm Sandy; you’ve dressed your best to raise donations for animal charities at our annual “Black Tails Gala”; you’ve shared our “Tails of Love” animations educating children on pet adoption; and you’ve participated in fundraisers from Kissing Booths to pictures with Santa Paws. It’s pawesome to look back on all the fun we’ve had over the last few years! Thank you for your part in making the Foundation such a great success.

Purr’n Pooch Foundation grants are awarded to non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organizations to be used for day-to-day operations, emergency relief, spay/neuter efforts, veterinary care, equipment, construction, vehicle purchases, educational programs and special projects. More details are available on our website. Please share the grant application with a charity that you think may need our support.

Please also make sure to join us for our upcoming “furstivities” and let’s share our love for animals by raising funds for charities in need of assistance.

Purr’n Pooch Picks for 2013 Trends in Pet Care

Pets-Are-Family-Post

Palazzo Family

Industry experts are saying that the pet care industry is “recession proof” and, as you may have noticed, pet resorts are popping up across the country. Though a burgeoning business, Purr’n Pooch President and CEO Dick Palazzo cautions pet owners of new companies with little or no experience in handling and caring for pets. Experience and expertise will be key to long-term success in this growing industry.

Curious about how Purr’n Pooch has stayed in business since 1970? All you have to do is hear from the key people who have contributed to our success. Here are the Palazzo Family’s picks for trends in pet care and how they will be accommodating their clients’ needs in 2013.

Pets Are Family

The biggest trends in pet care are really dictated by the underlying shift in how owners view their pets. Thirty years ago people certainly loved their pets, but they were just that, pets. As time has passed, the paradigm has shifted to people looking at their pets less like animals and more like family members.  The majority of pet owners want the absolute best for their pets, pampering included. At Purr’n Pooch we do our best to anticipate the needs and wants of our clients. Nothing says you love your pet like a 30-minute massage, strawberry bath and twilight walk. Mary Palazzo, Vice President

Aging Gracefully

Senior pet care is on the rise. As veterinary medicine has advanced and better nutrition and wellness products have been developed, people have become generally more willing to go the extra mile for their pets. We are seeing an increase in longevity as many of our dogs have been visiting us for boarding and daycare for more than ten years. This type of specialized care does present new challenges as the needs of each geriatric pet can vary greatly, but we do everything possible to provide the most comfortable and stress -free environment for them. Personalized care is the hallmark of our guest services for aging pets. It’s also a service dear to my heart as I’ve cared for several of my own senior dogs throughout the years at Purr’n Pooch. Dick Palazzo, President & CEO

Natural Products & Relaxation

At Purr’n Pooch, we have certainly made a push to offer a wider array of all natural or organic pet supplies to our customers and guests. Many of our shampoos and conditioners are 100% all natural, plant based and free of chemical detergents. Stress is also a large health factor in humans as well as pets. We go to great lengths to provide a relaxing environment for the pets with classical spa music played throughout our facilities. We also provide a natural pathway to relaxation through our spa services, which include massage therapy, reiki and group activities such as doga (yoga with your dog)Betsy Palazzo Dudick

Doggie Daycare

Doggie daycare continues to be on the rise. Many families work long hours and don’t want their dog(s) to be home alone. Some simply want their dog(s) to mingle, socialize and enjoy a good time. There are many reasons people bring their dogs to daycare, but the common thread among our clients is the love they share for their pets and their desire to do what’s best for them.  Koren Palazzo Spadavecchia

All in all, pet care services are on the rise in 2013 and at Purr’n Pooch we’re poised to continue to be the best option for pet owners visiting or living on the Jersey Shore. According to Embrace Pet Insurance, a member of the North American Pet Health Insurance Association, no time in history has seen such a wide and growing variety of products and services for pet parents and their pets.

Purr’n Pooch’s diverse menu of services reflects the growing general consensus that pets are indeed a substantial part of the family now. But, you knew that already didn’t you?
